It can be very easy to take the beautiful Canadian scenes that many of us see every day for granted. Growing up in northern Saskatchewan, having my mom stop the car on the way home in the winter, or interrupting some evening activity was a somewhat regular occurrence. It was also one that annoyed my 13 year old self. She was trying to draw my attention to the skies so that I could take in the Northern Lights. The adult me, who lives in the beautiful (but mostly Northern Light free) city of Calgary, now regrets rebuffing these opportunities to take in the lights. The Northern Lights are truly wondrous and every trip back to Saskatchewan has me hoping that I’ll get another glimpse.
